Q88Bets Bonus Dispute – My Experience Withheld Over £850 in Winnings

Overview of the Issue

In early 2025, I signed up with Q88Bets, a UK-facing online bookmaker, to take advantage of a £25 free bet welcome offer. I followed all terms as they were presented in the welcome email, met the stated wagering requirements, and ended up with over £1,500 in total winnings. But when I tried to withdraw, I was told that only £652 was eligible for payout. The rest was confiscated.

This page outlines exactly what happened, why I believe it’s unfair and potentially unlawful, and how I’ve filed a complaint with eCOGRA, the UKGC-approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service.

What Was Promised by Q88Bets

The email promotion stated:

  • £25 free bet with minimum odds of 1.5

  • Winnings from the free bet must be wagered once (1x)

  • Maximum conversion of £200 was mentioned — but only in reference to the initial free bet

There was no mention that winnings made after completing the wagering requirement would be capped or restricted.

What Actually Happened

  • I placed and won several bets, both with the free bet and later with real cash generated from those wins.

  • I fulfilled the wagering requirements and turned the bonus into “real money” — or so I thought.

  • My total balance after this was over £1,500.

  • When I went to withdraw, Q88Bets only allowed £652.08, claiming that anything beyond the £200 conversion was removed from my “bonus balance.”

  • They also deducted a £3 withdrawal fee, bringing my payout to £649.

Why This Is Potentially Unlawful

According to the UK Gambling Commission’s LCCP (Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice) and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008:

  • All key promotional terms must be clearly stated in the same space as the offer (e.g., the email)

  • Operators cannot rely on hidden or generic site terms if the customer was not clearly informed at the time of the offer

  • Terms must be transparent, fair, and not misleading

Q88Bets cited a site-wide bonus policy clause (J.6) about “proportional allocation of real and bonus funds,” but this was never mentioned in the email promotion, nor during the account creation flow.

Formal Complaint Filed With eCOGRA

I requested Q88Bets provide a reference number for their internal complaint review — they failed to respond. I have now submitted a formal dispute with eCOGRA, the independent ADR approved by the Gambling Commission.

If you’ve had a similar issue with Q88Bets or any other betting site, I encourage you to:

  • Document all promotional materials and emails

  • Take screenshots of your balance and wagering progress

  • Request all communications in writing

  • Escalate to eCOGRA or IBAS if the operator is uncooperative

Why I Built This Website

Q88Bets may assume most users won’t fight back. I’m creating this site to:

  • Raise awareness about what happened

  • Help others avoid the same pitfalls

  • Pressure Q88Bets into doing the right thing — honouring fair winnings

  • Encourage regulators and watchdogs to investigate practices like these
